Cinelatino

Denver's celebration of Latino cinema returns this September. A couple highlights:

Ciencias naturales (Natural Sciences)
In the mountains of Argentina, in the freezing cold of winter, Lila tries to escape from a boarding school on horseback. At 12 years old, she has just hit puberty, and she's determined to track down the father she's never known. Her teacher stops her, concerned for her well-being, but Lila's force of will eventually wins her over. Against the wishes of the school principal, the teacher drives Lila to the place where her father used to work, setting in motion a twisting, turning journey through buried memories and interconnected lives.

Landfill Harmonic
Landfill Harmonic follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage. When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts. However, when a natural disaster strikes their country, Favio must find a way to keep the orchestra intact and provide a source of hope for their town.
