A free showcase in conjunction with the Miami International Film Festival, Gay 8 offers two Latino films:
La Partida (The Last Match), Spain/Cuba
Two Cuban boys whose friendship becomes more than platonic use soccer to escape their difficult circumstances: one works for a corrupt loan shark and the other must sell his body in order to pay his family's debts. The two leads deliver charismatic and captivating performances as the sexually-charged lovers in this unforgettable drama by Spanish director Antonio Hens.
Azul y no tan rosa (My Straight Son), Venezuela
The story of Diego, a young and successful photographer who lives in the glamorous world of fashion, with its shallowness and excess. A tragic accident leaves his partner in a coma. At the same time, Diego is charged with caring for his son, Armando. Now, both need to learn to adapt: Armando to the unknown world of his father, and Diego to the narrow attitude of his teenage son. My Straight Son is the first Venezuelan film to win a Goya Award.
Miami: Jan 17 - 27 at MDC Tower Theater.
