Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival

A variety of recent Brazilian fiction, documentary and shorts comes to Hollywood. A couple highlights:

Trash
When three trash-picking boys from Rio’s slums find a wallet among the daily debris of their local landfill, little do they imagine that their lives are about to change forever. But when the local police show up offering a handsome reward for the wallet’s return, the boys realize that what they’ve found must be important, kicking off an unforgettable adventure.

Que Horas Ela Volta? (The Second Mother)
Val is a live-in housekeeper who loyally serves her wealthy São Paulo employers day in and day out while lovingly nannying their teenage son, whom she’s raised since toddlerhood. Val’s estranged daughter Jessica (Camila Mardila)—who came of age far removed, literally and figuratively, from her mother’s servitude mentality—suddenly appears to take college entrance exams, and the unspoken class barriers that exist within the home are thrown into disarray.

Los Angeles: Dec. 9 - 12. Full information on the festival website.
