Cine Latino

Minneapolis' annual Latino film festival happens in November. Here's a couple highlights:

Una noche sin luna (A Moonless Night), Uruguay
During New Year's Eve, three lonely characters travel to a small town lost in the Uruguayan countryside. Cesar, a divorced man, arrives in the town to have dinner with his ex-wife's new family and win back his little daughter's love. Antonio, a small-time magician, is trying to get to town to perform his routine at the community center, but his car breaks down. Stranded in the middle of the deserted road he meets Laura, a woman working at the toll station. Miguel, a performer, prepares his musical return at the community center's New Year party. Following these paths, the characters have a chance to turn around their destiny.

Silencio en la tierra de los sueños (Silence in Dreamland), Ecuador
After the death of her husband, silence and loneliness reign in an old lady’s house. She made routine her best friend and faith her shelter, but in her dreams she runs away from those four walls to a timeless magic land where the sea speaks without using words. Her days go by like this—between the real life and dreams—until a street dog comes to her door.
