Two films from Colombian filmmaker Oscar Ruíz Navia, with a filmmaker discussion.
Oct. 20: Los Hongos
Los Hongos follows two young men through the streets of Cali, Colombia, in search of a good time and a higher purpose. Best friends and street artists, Ras and Calvin scout their city for surfaces to decorate with whatever paint they can scavenge. Inspired by news of the Arab Spring uprisings, they dream of collaborating on a vast mural that will express solidarity with Egypt’s student demonstrators.
Oct. 21: El Vuelco del Cangrejo
Set in a remote village wedged precariously between jungle and ocean, this film follows an itinerant incomer as he observes and explores his alluring but disturbing environment.
