A literary luminary, García Márquez was also a lifelong screenwriter, movie lover, and pivotal supporter of Latin American film industries. "Beyond Macondo" pays homage to his cinematic legacy, showing how contemporary Colombian directors have echoed García Márquez's deep sense of political justice and love of popular culture, while also expressing their own unique thematic concerns and approaches to filmmaking. Kicking off with a new documentary detailing Márquez's life and legacy, the series continues with four contemporary narratives and includes special guest appearances by several Colombian filmmakers.
