The Film Society of Lincoln Center presents the second edition of Sound + Vision, a music documentary series. Three Latino films made the cut:
For Those About to Rock: The Story of Rodrigo y Gabriela, Two metal musicians from Mexico City who decided to try their luck in Dublin, busking and developing a new style with influences from flamenco, salsa, and hard rock. Screenings July 31 and August 6.
Mateo, is the story of Matthew Stoneman, a lowly, 50-something musician from New Hampshire, and his journey to be the world’s most famous “Gringo Mariachi." Screening and conversation with director Aaron Naar on August 4.
Passinho Dance Off: The Movie, follows contenders to be the king of passinho, a hybrid of pop, break dancing, and traditional dance styles developed in Rio's favelas. The August 2nd screening is the North American premiere and features a Q&A with the filmmaker, writer, and one of the dancers.
