OutFest LA

Los Angeles' LGBT film fest has a variety of Latino films from the U.S. and abroad. A couple highlights:

Raising Zoey, USA
Affecting the lives of countless kids, teenagers and even adults, 13 year-old trans activist Zoey Luna wants nothing more than to simply go to school, learn, have fun with her friends in Downey, CA.  Unfortunately, ignorance and intolerance have not always made this easy.  With the help of her mother Ofelia, her older sister Leticia and the ACLU, Zoey fought school officials for her right to self-identify in school.  Even in the face of bullying and endless teasing from both school officials and students, Zoey determinedly continues to live her life as she is and tells her story in the hopes of helping others persevere in living their authentic lives.

Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four, USA
Witch hunts aren't confined to the 17th century, as four falsely charged lesbians in late-90s Texas discover. Accused of child molestation and Satanism by a jealous ex, the "San Antonio Four" are quickly tried by a homophobic jury and sentenced by a disinterested court. Director Deborah S. Esquenazi uses her prodigious talent to build a strong case for their innocence and an even stronger argument for their exoneration in this gripping true-crime doc, as compelling as "Making a Murderer."
