Allentown's Civic Theatre presents a Latino film series this summer.
July 5: La Nana, The Maid (Chile).
The story of a maid called Raquel, who has worked for over 20 years in one affluent Chilean household, rediscovers herself. La Nana is a microcosm of Latin social hierarchy while also focusing on one woman’s journey to free herself from a mental servitude of her own making.
July 19: El Hijo De La Novia, Son of the Bride (Argentina)
At age 42, Rafael Belvedere is having a crisis. He lives in the shadow of his father, he feels guilty about rarely visiting his aging mother, his ex-wife says he doesn’t spend enough time with their daughter and he has yet to make a commitment to his girlfriend. At his lowest point, a minor heart attack reunites him with Juan Carlos, a childhood friend, who helps Rafael to reconstruct his past and look at the present in new ways.
August 2: Contracorriente, Undertow (Peru)
An unusual ghost story set on the Peruvian seaside; a married fisherman struggles to reconcile his devotion to his male lover within his town’s rigid traditions.
August 16: Y Tu Mama Tambien, And Your Mother Too (Mexico)
In Mexico, two teenage boys and an attractive older woman embark on a road trip and learn a thing or two about life, friendship, sex, and each other.
Allentown, PA: July 5 - August 15. Full details here.
